About Kreto
A $20,000 overpayment. Two states. No tool to catch it.
That is how Kreto started.
The origin
In 2023, Sudheer Erla, a software engineer running a small consulting business, found he had been overpaying state unemployment insurance to both Oregon and Ohio for nearly two years. The total was over $20,000.
The cause was not negligence. It was complexity. After a move from Oregon to Ohio, his payroll provider kept withholding Oregon SUI while Ohio also began billing. No one flagged the overlap. No tool connected his payroll to the letters arriving in his mailbox.
Months of agency calls, CPA calls and rate lookups later, the pattern was clear. CPA firms everywhere were reading notices by hand, checking them against payroll by hand and drafting protests one at a time.
So he built Kreto. It reads the notices, checks rate and Form 941 notices against the payroll on file, and drafts the protest for a person to approve. Then it grew around them: the registrations each state needs, the deadlines, the employment programs.
What Kreto is today.
Kreto is the compliance program for the states an employer hires in, used by CPA firms and by employers directly. Kreto files state registrations and tracks them, keeps deadlines on one calendar, and reads, checks and drafts when an agency writes. A person approves before anything leaves, and every step is recorded in a hash-chained trail.
