How notice response deadlines work.
Every notice has a window.
A notice from the IRS or a state agency comes with a response window: the calendar days you have before the agency acts by default, which usually works against you.
State windows run shorter.
IRS windows usually run 21 to 90 days, by how serious the notice is. Some states give an employer as few as 10 calendar days to answer an unemployment claim.
A missed window costs a right.
Miss the 30-day window on a CP90 and you lose your Collection Due Process hearing. Miss a state claim's window and the claim is approved, which can raise your SUI rate.
